Woodward
Woodward's growth has not been driven by extensive mergers and acquisitions but has consistently focused on control, achieving its position as a top-tier supplier in the aerospace and industrial energy sectors through continuous internal innovation and strategic acquisitions.
In 1870, Amos Woodward founded Woodward in Rockford, Illinois, USA. The company initially focused on producing various precision measuring tools and rulers. In 1890, it produced its first mechanical governor for controlling the speed of water turbines. During World War II, Woodward applied its expertise in mechanical control to aircraft engines, with its products renowned for high reliability and precision, becoming industry standards. During this period, Woodward established deep and enduring partnerships with major aviation engine manufacturers such as Pratt & Whitney, GE Aviation, and Rolls-Royce, which continue to this day.

In the 1970s to 1990s, Woodward successfully applied its control technologies validated in the aviation sector to industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, and diesel engines, with power plants, oil and gas pipelines, and ships becoming new key markets. In 1991, Woodward acquired Funk Aviation, which specialized in propellers and transmission systems. In 1994, it acquired Airrow Systems, which focused on helicopter controls, and in 1996, it acquired L'Orange, which specialized in diesel engine fuel injection systems, significantly enhancing its overall capabilities in the power transmission chain.
In 2018, Woodward established a joint venture with GE's aviation business division, Woodward GE Aviation Systems, integrating GE's fuel control and electric start system businesses with Woodward's aviation fuel, combustion, and control businesses, further solidifying its dominant position in the aviation engine market.
Currently, Woodward's primary product lines are centered around two core areas: aerospace and energy control.
1. Aviation Control Systems: such as fuel management systems and engine control system (FADEC), Actuation System (Flight Control System), Propeller Control System
2. Industrial power and energy control: such as turbine control systems (505DR controller) for steam turbines, gas turbines, etc., internal combustion engine control systems (8200-1302 module), governors and actuators, power system solutions (generator control and synchronization)
3. Emerging and sustainable technology fields: such as alternative fuel control systems (hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel), electric and hybrid systems, etc.
