Yokogawa Electric Corporation was founded in Tokyo in 1915 by Dr. Minosuke Yokogawa under the original name “Electrical Instrument Laboratory.” In its early years, the company focused on breaking the foreign monopoly on electrical meters in the Japanese market, producing products such as ammeters and voltmeters. In 1975, it launched CENTUM—the world's first groundbreaking distributed control system (DCS)—establishing its leadership in industrial automation. In 1983, it merged with Hokushin Electric to form Yokogawa Hokushin Electric Co., Ltd., which was renamed Yokogawa Electric Corporation (YOKOGAWA) in 1986.
In 2002, it merged with Ando Electric, strengthening its capabilities in communication measurement instruments. That same year, it established Yokogawa Electric (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. as a wholly-owned subsidiary in Suzhou, China, creating a large-scale production base and flow calibration system. In 2008, it consolidated its China operations, forming Yokogawa Electric (China) Co., Ltd. as the holding company. In 2016, it acquired energy management technology company Soteica Visual Mesa (SVM), integrating it with KBC (acquired in April 2016) and the Industrial Intelligence Division to enhance capabilities in energy management solutions for process industries and cloud data processing.
Yokogawa's products and services primarily focus on three major areas: industrial automation and control, test and measurement, and information systems.
1. Industrial Automation and Control Systems
(1) Distributed Control Systems (DCS), such as CENTUM VP, CS3000, and CS1000, for process control, operational monitoring, and optimization in large-scale process plants like oil, chemical, and power facilities.
(2) Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), such as ProSafe-RS, ensuring plant safety and implementing safety functions.
(3) PLCs & RTUs, such as the STARDOM network-based controllers, for data acquisition and logic control.
(4) Field instruments, including EJA series pressure/differential pressure transmitters, EJX series transmitters; AXF series electromagnetic flowmeters, vortex flowmeters; gas chromatographs, pH meters, gas analyzers; YTA series temperature sensors, etc.
2. Testing and Measurement Equipment, Precision Measurement Instruments such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, optical communication test equipment, mobile communication test equipment, etc.
3. Information Systems and Solutions
Such as Plant Information Management Systems (PIMS), Advanced Control and Optimization Software, Energy Management Solutions (EMS), Industrial Automation and Industrial Autonomy (IA2IA) Solutions, etc.
