Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric's history of development and acquisitions is a classic example of a successful transformation from a steel and arms manufacturer to a leader in energy efficiency management and automation digitization. The company initially focused on the steel industry and heavy machinery manufacturing, and quickly became an important player in the railway and shipbuilding industries. As the situation in Europe became increasingly tense, Schneider became one of the most important weapons manufacturers in Europe during World War II. After World War II, as Europe entered a period of reconstruction, Schneider shifted its strategic focus toward industrial automation and power infrastructure development.

In 1988, Schneider acquired Telemecanique, a leader in industrial control components such as relays, sensors, and PLCs, laying the foundation for its subsequent automation business. In 1991, it acquired Square D, a leading U.S. manufacturer of low-voltage distribution and industrial control products, solidifying its global leadership in terminal distribution. In 1992, it acquired Merlin Gerin, a top expert in medium- and low-voltage distribution, energy management, and industrial control, giving Schneider unquestioned global leadership in distribution technology. In 1999, it acquired Lexel, the second-largest company in Europe's distribution sector.

In 2007, Schneider acquired American Power Conversion, a leader in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) technology, successfully entering the data center infrastructure and critical power protection markets. In 2014, Schneider acquired Invensys. Invensys' subsidiaries Foxboro, Triconex, and Wonderware are giants in industrial software, process automation, and safety systems. This acquisition has significantly enhanced Schneider's capabilities in industrial software and process industry solutions, infusing its EcoStruxure platform with powerful software capabilities. From 2017 to 2022, Schneider further strengthened its capabilities in digital transformation through the integration and acquisition of shares in AVEVA, a UK-based engineering software giant.

Through a series of acquisitions and departmental integrations, Schneider's current main product lines include:

1. Low-voltage distribution, industrial control, and automation products

2. Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), critical power, and cooling services

3. Industrial software covering engineering, monitoring, and operational optimization

4. Automatic transfer switches, medium- and low-voltage switchgear, variable frequency drives such as Altivar 1200C-S 2 and Altivar 3058, and soft starters such as ATS430 and ATS490.
