General Electric
General Electric (GE) is a global industrial giant with over 140 years of history, founded by Thomas Edison. It initially focused on lighting and power businesses and later expanded into a diversified enterprise spanning aviation, healthcare, energy, finance, and other fields. In its early days, GE's business scope covered electrical, defense, and financial sectors. Since the 21st century, it has prioritized the development of industrial control fields. A typical example is GE-FANUC.
GE-FANUC is a joint venture between General Electric and FANUC. It has acquired Cim Works GageTalker, a company specializing in flexible manufacturing; Data Views Corporation, a manufacturer of industrial automation software; Huntsville Company in the United States; RAMiX Inc., a company specializing in embedded systems for the defense industry; Intellution, the world's largest automation software company; and Shanghai Xinhua Automation Company, a company engaged in the research, development, and manufacturing of DCS systems. During this phase of acquisitions in 2000, GE attempted to acquire Honeywell for $45 billion, but the deal was rejected by the European Union, making it the largest uncompleted merger in history.
In 2015, GE acquired the power and grid business of French company Alstom, strengthening its energy business. In 2016, GE merged with Baker Hughes to form BHGE (now Baker Hughes Company), becoming the world's third-largest oilfield services company.
Since 2020, GE has begun to focus on its aviation, healthcare, and energy businesses. The healthcare business and the renewable energy and power technology divisions were subsequently spun off and listed separately, operating independently. The aviation business has become GE's core division and continues to dominate the commercial aircraft engine market. GE currently has three main product lines:
1. Aviation (GE Aerospace)
Commercial and military aircraft engines
2. Energy (GE Vernova)
Gas turbines such as the TM2500 DLE and HA-class gas turbines; renewable energy such as the Haliade-X series of offshore/onshore wind turbines; smart grids, energy storage technologies, etc.
3. Healthcare (GE Healthcare)
Medical imaging equipment such as MRI, CT, and ultrasound devices; life sciences such as pharmaceutical equipment and cell therapy technology.
