The PR6424/000-100 is a 16mm non-contact sensor manufactured by Emerson EPRO. It is designed to measure the dynamic radial and axial displacement, position, eccentricity, and speed/key-phasor signals of shafts. This sensor applies to critical turbomachinery such as steam turbines, gas turbines, hydro turbines, compressors, pumps, and fans. The primary advantages of the PR6424/000-100 sensor include wear-free operation during service, suitability for high-speed rotating machinery, and excellent high-temperature resistance. Utilizing the eddy current principle, the sensor accurately measures changes in the relative distance between the probe and the rotating shaft without making physical contact with the object being measured. Furthermore, the sensor is capable of simultaneously measuring both static and dynamic displacement; when paired with the accompanying CON011 or CON021 preamplifiers, it forms a vital component of EPRO's mechanical condition monitoring systems. Key Differences Between the PR6424, PR6423, and PR6426 Models

  1. PR6423: Features a smaller measurement range and higher precision, making it suitable for measuring precise vibrations and displacement changes within a limited scope. It is primarily used for small-scale, high-speed rotating machinery, such as centrifugal compressors and turbochargers.
  2. PR6424: Offers a wide range of applications and is suitable for medium-sized rotating shafts. It can be utilized to monitor axial displacement and radial vibration in steam and gas turbines, as well as to monitor shaft vibration, displacement, and eccentricity in compressors, fans, and pumps. Additionally, it is well-suited for monitoring other critical rotating machinery, such as gearboxes and hydro turbines.
  3. PR6426: Offers the widest measurement range, making it suitable for monitoring large displacements or differential expansion. It is primarily utilized in large-scale, heavy-duty rotating machinery—such as large hydraulic turbines and heavy-duty, low-speed bearings—and is ideally suited for monitoring the differential expansion between rotors and casings, as well as the absolute vibration of large rotating shafts.

  • When selecting a sensor, ensure that the measuring range and temperature are compatible. Choose a model based on actual measurement requirements and ambient temperature.
  • During installation, ensure the probe-to-surface distance (air gap) is accurately adjusted, ensure the straight pipe length in front of the sensor is sufficient, and ensure the locking nut is secure. Route the cable away from sources of strong electromagnetic interference.
  • Secondary instrument parameters (such as full-scale frequency) must be correctly set; otherwise, inaccurate or unreadable readings may occur.
  • Consider recalibrating the sensor system after extended use (e.g., two years of continuous use) or when changing the measured material.
