Function & Details	Bently Nevada 24765-02-01 is a Case Expansion Transducer (DC), which is primarily used for measuring thermal expansion in large steam turbine casings. A critical position measurement in turbine monitoring instruments (TSI) is case expansion. Case expansion refers to the thermal expansion that occurs in the machine case during startup and online operation. Case expansion sensor systems are typically mounted on the foundation, positioned at the opposite end of the turbine case connection to the foundation, to provide information on case expansion relative to the foundation. This device provides information on the position of sliding feet on the case and requires a dual-sensor configuration for measurement. When used with a dual-case expansion sensor configuration and 3300 or 3500 monitors, it can issue alerts for obstructed or jammed sliding feet on the case, preventing case deformation and machine damage. The high-temperature dual-case expansion sensor configuration is compatible only with the 3500/45 position monitor. Case expansion measurement also determines whether machine conditions exceed the expected temperature rise differential. The temperature rise differential is a startup parameter used to verify that the temperature rise of the machine case and rotor increases at nearly identical rates. Disparate temperature rise rates can cause friction between the machine's rotating and stationary components.
Application	How the Case Expansion Sensor Works: The case expansion sensor assembly consists of a linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) housed within a weatherproof protective enclosure. The case expansion sensor system utilizes the LVDT to measure thermal growth in the machine case. A rod connected to the machine is attached to the LVDT. As the machine case expands, the rod moves within the LVDT, altering the signal within it. The sensor electronically modulates this signal and outputs it to a monitor for display and alarm functions.
