The IS220PPROH1A is a turbine emergency protection module from the GE Mark VIe series. The module provides an independent backup overspeed protection system with backup detection to ensure generator synchronization with the grid bus. The IS220PPROH1A also provides an independent watchdog function for the main controller. The PPRO module has an Ethernet interface for IONet communication with the control module. The emergency protection module receives three speed signals: basic overspeed, acceleration, deceleration, and hardware-implemented overspeed, thereby monitoring the main controller's operation and using the main speed as an indicator of normal operation. If a fault is detected, the IS220PPROH1A immediately triggers the backup trip relay on the trip panel, thereby triggering the main controller to trip. This component operates completely independently of the main controller, aiding in equipment protection during emergencies.
Up to three trip solenoid valves can be connected between the onboard main trip terminals and the emergency trip terminals. Connecting solenoid valves between terminals isolates the power supply on both sides of the solenoid valve, preventing the solenoid valve voltage from being interpreted as a feedback signal by the system. The main/emergency trip terminals, TRPG/TREG, TRPL/TREL, and TRPS/TRES, are designed for use in pairs and are connected to the system via cables. The IS220PPROH1A can be used in multiple configurations, including simplex, duplex, and TMR tri-mode control.
A typical protection system consists of three triple-redundant PPRO I/O modules mounted on a single simplex protection terminal block. Specified emergency trip terminal blocks include:
