Function & Details

The IS220PAICH1A is an analog input/output module in the GE Mark VIe series, providing an electrical interface between Ethernet input/output and analog input terminal blocks. This module can handle up to 10 analog inputs, with the first 8 configurable as ±5 V or ±10 V inputs, or 0-20 mA current loop inputs. The last 2 inputs are configurable as ±1 mA or 0-20 mA current inputs. The IS220PAICH1A I/O assembly includes a processor board compatible with all Mark VIe distributed I/O modules and a dedicated acquisition board for analog input functionality. The processor board connects to the acquisition board dedicated to I/O assembly functionality. Upon power-up, the processor automatically performs a self-test to ensure proper matching of the application code, acquisition board, and terminal board. After successful matching, the processor uses the industry-standard Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) for network addressing and establishes Ethernet communication using a unique identifier read from the terminal board. The IS220PAICH1A module's processor board includes the following components:

  • High-speed processor with RAM and flash memory
  • Two fully independent 10/100 Ethernet ports with connectors
  • Hardware watchdog timer and reset circuitry
  • Internal I/O component temperature sensor
  • Infrared serial communication port
  • Status indicator lights
  • Electronic ID for reading IDs on other boards
  • Input power connector with soft-start/current limiter
  • Local power supply with timing and monitoring functions

 

The IS220PAICH1A I/O module's 28V input circuitry integrates power management functions, providing a soft-start function to control inrush current during power-up. Upon power-up, the circuitry provides rapid current limiting to prevent module or terminal block failures from affecting the 28V power system. A green PWR indicator light will illuminate when powered on and operating normally. If the current limiting function is activated, the indicator light will turn off until the problem is resolved. The module includes the following connectors.

  1. A DC-37 pin connector on the bottom of the battery pack connects directly to the discrete input terminal block.
  2. The RJ45 Ethernet connector (ENET1) on the side of the battery pack is the main system interface.
  3. The second RJ45 Ethernet connector (ENET2) on the side of the battery pack is the redundant or auxiliary system interface.
  4. The 3-pin power connector on the side of the battery pack provides 28V DC power to the battery pack and terminal blocks.

 

Status Indicators

  • PWR Green LED – Indicates control power is connected.
  • ATTN Red LED – Indicates module status. An off LED indicates no fault detected; a constantly lit LED indicates a serious module fault, such as a hardware fault detected on the processor or acquisition board, or application code not being loaded; a rapidly flashing LED (1/4 cycle) indicates a battery pack fault, such as an incorrect battery pack on the terminal block, a missing terminal block, or an incorrect application code loading; a medium-speed flashing LED (3/4 cycle) indicates the battery pack is not connected; a slow flashing LED (2 cycles) indicates the battery pack has received an LED flashing request to attract attention.
  • Ethernet Port LINK Green LED – Indicates a valid Ethernet connection exists.
  • The yellow LED on the Ethernet port TxRx – indicates that the battery pack is sending or receiving data through this port.
