The IS200EGDMH1A is a field ground detection board designed to operate in conjunction with the EXAM module within the GE EX2100e excitation system, serving to detect ground leakage currents in the excitation circuit.
Functions
It monitors the ground resistance between any point in the generator excitation circuit and ground, with a detection range encompassing both the AC and DC sides. The EGDM is a double-slot, double-height (6U) board that is installed within the Excitation Power Backplane (EPBP) rack. A simplex system configuration utilizes a single EGDM board, whereas a redundant system configuration employs three boards.

Signal Process
As illustrated on the left, the IS200EGDMH1A is installed in the EPBP rack and applies a low-frequency square wave signal to a sampling resistor connected to the excitation circuit. The EXAM attenuator module—located within the auxiliary panel—is responsible for detecting the voltage across this sampling resistor and transmitting the corresponding signal back to the IS200EGDMH1A.

FAQ
1. What is the function of IS200EGDMH1A?
—Used to detect ground leakage current in the excitation circuit.
2. Which Circuit Boards Are Typically Paired with the IS200EGDMH1A?
—IS200EXAMG1B Exciter Attenuation Module.
3. Can the IS200EGDMH1A be configured for redundancy?
—Certainly. Three IS200EGDMH1A units can be configured to form a redundant system within the GE EX2100e excitation control system.
Application Case: A large-scale coal-fired power plant implemented a redundant configuration of IS200EGDMH1A modules within its steam turbine-generator units to monitor the insulation status of the rotor excitation windings. After approximately four years of continuous operation, plant personnel observed intermittent ground fault alarms within the excitation system. The IS200EGDMH1A modules detected a gradual decline in the insulation resistance between the excitation circuit and ground, subsequently transmitting alarm signals via the DSPX control modules.
Customer Comments: "Upon discovering the alarm condition, our maintenance team immediately initiated troubleshooting procedures. They determined that the excitation cables had suffered localized insulation degradation due to exposure to high temperatures; this, combined with a humid operating environment, resulted in minor current leakage. However, the IS200EGDMH1A modules detected this developing issue in advance, enabling us to execute a timely shutdown for maintenance before the fault could escalate—thereby averting a catastrophic rotor winding burnout."
