The EcoStruxure™ Foxboro™ DCS Field Control Processor 280 (FCP280) is a distributed, optional fault-tolerant field-mounted controller module. The FCP280 works in conjunction with connected Foxboro DCS Fieldbus Modules (FBMs) to perform regulation, logic, timing, and sequential control. It also performs data acquisition, alarm detection, and notification. The FCP280 connects to the Foxboro DCS control network via a network adapter mounted on its backplane, using standard fiber optic or 100 Mbps Ethernet copper cabling. Redundant FCP280 module pairs consist of two FCP280 processor modules. The FCP280 receives four PIO channels (four independent HDLC fieldbuses, collectively referred to as extended fieldbuses) through four fieldbus ports on the backplane.

The FCP280 processor features the following:

  • Performs regulation, logic, timing, and sequential control with connected Foxboro DCS fieldbus modules (FBMs).
  • Performs data acquisition, alarm detection, and notification.
  • Supports 200 Series and 100 Series FBM devices: up to 128 compact or standard 200 Series FBMs, 128 100 Series FBMs, or a combination of up to 128 100 Series FBMs and 200 Series FBMs, without requiring a fieldbus communication module (up to 64 100 Series FBMs can be connected per PIO channel/backplane port). For 200 Series and 100 Series devices, each fieldbus port on the standard FCP280 backplane supports 2 Mbps or 268 Kbps HDLC fieldbus. An optional dual-cable backplane allows for separate cables for each "A" and "B" bus.
  • Extended fieldbus support without fieldbus expansion modules
  • Supports self-hosting mode; even when the host workstation is offline, the FCP280 can start itself using a valid control database, but control functions cannot be edited.
  • Supports dual control modules for redundant operation.
  • Provides overload protection.
  • LCD displays letter indicators as well as real-time roles and status.
  • Connects to the Foxboro DCS control network via standard fiber optic or copper cabling (100 Mbps Ethernet). Features a rugged die-cast aluminum housing for installation in unventilated field racks; operates in G3-class harsh environments; CE certified; field-mountable in racks.
  • Utilizes versatile control algorithms and various FBMs to provide control functionality for a wide range of process applications.
