EC222 922-222-000-002 is a high-quality, high-reliability cable assembly suitable for CA280 vibration sensors (accelerometers using external signal conditioners). It can be used long-term in harsh environments such as high temperatures and/or hazardous areas (potentially explosive gas atmospheres). The EC222 cable assembly is similar to the EC119 cable assembly, but the EC222 has weaker protection and only one shielding layer. The characteristics of the EC222 922-222-000-002 extension cable are as follows:

  • K221 low-noise cable with a Teflon PFA outer sheath (4.8 mm diameter)
  • The threaded connector (CG505 type) connects to the leads
  • Dual wires with shielding

Comparison of EC222 and EC119

Both EC222 and EC119 are low-noise coaxial extension cables specifically designed for the CA280 piezoelectric accelerometer sensor. Both can be used long-term in harsh industrial environments such as high temperatures and hazardous areas, and are widely used for vibration monitoring of critical rotating machinery such as gas turbines, steam turbines, and compressors.

Similarities between EC222 and EC119
Both are low-noise shielded cables used to transmit the high-impedance signal from the piezoelectric accelerometer to vibration monitors such as the VM600/EPRO with low loss and interference resistance. Both use high-performance circular connectors for a secure and vibration-resistant connection. Both have robust protective sheaths that are oil-proof, dust-proof, high-temperature resistant, corrosion-resistant, and mechanically abrasion-resistant.

Differences between EC222 and EC119:

  1. EC119 cable assemblies are double-shielded and feature a flexible, sealed hose, offering enhanced protection; EC222 has only one shielding layer.
  2. EC222 is better suited for use with IEPE/ICP accelerometers requiring remote power supply, minimizing signal attenuation and interference. EC119 is primarily used with standard IEPE/ICP accelerometers.
  3. EC222 uses twisted-pair cables internally. The total capacitance of the twisted-pair cables affects high-frequency signals, thus limiting its length and requiring more precise system matching. EC119 offers a wider length range, relatively stable coaxial cable capacitance, and greater adaptability to different lengths.
  4. In terms of applications, EC222 is suitable for scenarios with extremely stringent signal quality requirements, such as gas turbine combustion chamber pressure/vibration monitoring, high-speed research and development testing, or long-distance signal transmission. The EC119 is suitable for most industrial vibration monitoring and protection scenarios, such as bearing housing vibration, housing vibration, and gearbox monitoring.

It is typically more expensive due to its more complex manufacturing process and higher material requirements. However, it is relatively more economical and represents a cost-effective standard solution.  When selecting a model, if the extension cable needs to be used for core protection (such as trip protection) and critical performance monitoring (such as combustion oscillation), and the budget allows, the EC222 should be considered first. For routine vibration monitoring, trend analysis, and general protection, the EC119 is a completely reliable and economical choice.
