Function & Application

The XMx16 is a central processing unit (CPU) module for condition monitoring within the VM600Mk2/VM600 machinery monitoring systems, primarily dedicated to the efficient and rapid execution of analog-to-digital conversion and various data processing tasks. The XMx16 processing module is installed at the front of the rack—compatible with both the standard VM600Mk2/VM600 rack (ABE04x) and the slimline rack (ABE056)—and connects directly to the rack's backplane via two connectors. The processing module is responsible for performing analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) as well as all digital signal processing functions, including the processing of various waveforms and spectra, and the generation of corresponding processed outputs. The module acquires and processes data with a high resolution of 24 bits, generating waveforms and spectra through three distinct measurement modes: Main Mode, Auxiliary Mode, and Direct Mode. The duration of the XMx16 module's internal processing cycle is determined by the waveform and spectral resolutions configured by the user for the Main Mode and Auxiliary Mode. 

  1. Main Mode serves as the primary data acquisition mode, responsible for executing continuous data acquisition tasks. This mode is suitable for routine operational monitoring of machinery and equipment—for instance, monitoring rising trends in vibration levels or transient operational processes. The waveforms and spectra acquired in Main Mode are utilized to generate corresponding processed output results.
  2. Auxiliary Mode acts as a supplement to Main Mode, designed to capture more detailed waveform and spectral data, albeit at a lower update rate.
  3. Direct Mode is utilized to acquire digitized, continuous, and long-duration waveform data from dynamic input channels. Its primary function is to record waveform variations occurring during the period immediately preceding an alarm event. Typically, this mode requires the use of third-party software applications to visualize the acquired data.

 

XMx16 Connectors and Status Indicators
STATUS and DATA: These indicators display the operational status of the XMx16 + XIO16T module—such as normal operation, configuration mode, or fault conditions.
ETHERNET: An 8P8C (RJ45) modular jack (female connector). This serves as the system Ethernet interface, facilitating communication between the XMx16 + XIO16T module and either a computer running VibroSight® software or a CPUx module; the integrated Link and Activity LEDs indicate the status of this system Ethernet communication.
ACT and LINK: Dedicated Activity and Link LEDs that provide independent indications of the system Ethernet communication status.

 

The XMx16 + XIO16T constitutes a pair of expansion condition monitoring modules compatible with both the VM600Mk2 and VM600 machinery monitoring systems. Comprising the XMx16 processing module and the XIO16T input/output (interface) module, this pair provides 16 dynamic channels and 4 speed channels, enabling high-performance machinery condition monitoring. The XMV16 + XIO16T modules are primarily designed for machinery vibration monitoring applications, while the XMC16 + XIO16T modules are tailored for machinery combustion monitoring applications. When used in combination, this module pair is suitable for a wide range of scenarios, including machinery vibration monitoring and analysis, rotor dynamics analysis, rolling element bearing analysis, hydro-turbine air gap and magnetic flux monitoring and analysis, and combustion monitoring and analysis—including combustion dynamics and dynamic pressure pulsation analysis. The XMx16 + XIO16T modules provide all the interface and signal processing capabilities required for an intelligent data acquisition system; they are responsible for acquiring and analyzing vibration data, and for transmitting the analysis results directly to the host computer running the VibroSight® software. The XMx16 + XIO16T expansion condition monitoring modules represent the latest generation of condition monitoring technology and serve as a complete replacement for the legacy CMC16/IOC16T condition monitoring module pair.
