The T8311 is a TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) expansion interface module from ICS Triplex. It provides the primary interface between the internal module bus (IMB) and the expansion bus. The expansion bus allows multiple chassis systems to be connected via UTP cables while maintaining fault-tolerant, high-bandwidth IMB capabilities. Utilizing the HIFT TMR fault-tolerant architecture, the T8311 module provides fault isolation for the expansion bus, the module itself, and the IMB within the controller chassis, thereby minimizing the impact of potential faults on data transmission and the control system.
FCR A, B, C & D
The T8311 module comprises three primary Fault Containment Regions (FCRs A, B, and C). Each FCR contains expansion bus and IMB interfaces, primary/standby interfaces, control logic, communication transceivers, and an independent power supply. A fourth Fault Containment Region (FCR D) handles non-critical monitoring and display functions while also participating in the voting structure among the FCRs. The module's primary function is to transmit signals received from the controller chassis IMB/backplane to the expansion bus and to feed module signals back to the control system. The data and signal transmission path is: TMR Processor → TMR Expansion Interface → TMR Expansion Processor → I/O Modules.

FAQ
1. What do the LEDs on the T8311 front panel indicate?
——Three "Healthy" LEDs correspond to channels A, B, and C: steady green indicates healthy status; flashing red indicates a fault in the corresponding channel. The "Active" LED (green) indicates the module is in active mode; the "Standby" LED (steady green) indicates the module is in standby mode.
2. When using the T8311 module in a control chassis, is it necessary to pair it with other modules?
——T831 expansion interface modules are installed in pairs within the I/O slots of the controller chassis; the two interface slots must be interconnected via the T8312 expansion interface adapter unit. The expansion interface module connects to the expansion processor module via the TC-301 expansion interface hot-link cable and the T8312 unit. To connect a remote expansion chassis, the T8314 Trusted fiber-optic Tx/Rx unit is required, utilizing the TC-302 cable to connect the expansion interface adapter to the fiber-optic Tx/Rx unit.
3. What precautions should be taken when installing or replacing the T8311 module?
——Do not remove the module while its indicator shows an "ACTIVE" status, as this may trigger a shutdown sequence; anti-static measures must be observed during handling.
4. Both the T8310 and T8311 are expansion interface modules; what is the difference between them?
——The T8310 and T8311 are both essential and work as a pair to facilitate cross-chassis IMB expansion. The T8311 is installed in the main controller chassis to "initiate" the expansion connection and drive the multi-channel expansion bus externally, while the T8310 is installed in the expansion chassis to "receive" this connection and additionally handle power and clock distribution for the I/O modules within the expansion chassis. Expansion processor not installed. Verify the TMR processor's operating status and start the application; check the expansion processor status via the T8300 chassis board or diagnostic tools.
