The ICS triplex T8110B Trusted® processor is the primary processing component in a Trusted system. It is a powerful, configurable module providing comprehensive system control and monitoring capabilities, and processing data received from various analog and digital input/output modules, transmitted via the Trusted TMR inter-module communication bus. The Trusted TMR processor has a wide range of applications, including fire and gas control, emergency shutdown, monitoring and control, and turbine control.
The T8110B TMR processor is a fault-tolerant design based on a Triple Module Redundancy (TMR) architecture, operating in a lockstep configuration. The module contains three processor fault isolation regions (FCRs), each containing a Motorola PowerPC series processor and its associated memory (EPROM, DRAM, flash ROM, and NVRAM), memory-mapped I/O, a voter, and glue logic. Each processor FCR performs a 2-out-of-3 (2oo3) read access vote on the memory systems of the other two processors' FCRs to eliminate operational discrepancies. The front panel includes a fault isolation zone (FCR D) separate from the other FCRs, whose functions include:
The module's three processors store and execute applications, scan and update I/O modules, and detect system faults. Each processor executes the application independently but remains synchronized with the other two processors. If one processor experiences an operational discrepancy, an additional mechanism allows the faulty processor to resynchronize with the other two. Each processor has an interface containing an input voter, discrepancy detection logic, memory, and an output drive bus interface connected to the inter-module bus. Each processor's output is connected to different channels of the three inter-module buses via module connectors. The functions of the four module memories are as follows:
