The RLC16Mk2 is an optional, standalone relay unit within the second-generation VM600Mk2 rack-based machinery monitoring system, designed primarily to provide an expansion of 16 additional user-configurable relays. The optional RLC16Mk2 module allows for the expansion of relay outputs in instances where the four relays provided by a single MPC4Mk2 + IOC4Mk2 card pair are insufficient to meet the requirements of a specific application. Available in both Standard and SIL-certified safety versions, the RLC16Mk2 module enables machinery monitoring and protection systems across various industrial sectors to easily and efficiently extend their relay output capabilities. The RLC16Mk2 module must operate under the control of its associated MPC4Mk2 module; it is compatible with both the standard VM600Mk2 system rack (ABE04x) and the slimline rack (ABE056), with the specific control relationship determined by the system's configuration settings. This relay module is a single-width unit that occupies one slot within the VM600Mk2 rack; it is installed at the rear of the rack and connects directly to the rack's backplane via two connectors. The RLC16Mk2 module features 16 user-configurable Single-Pole Double-Throw (SPDT) relays (RL1 through RL16), which serve to provide remote indication of system alarms and/or status information. The relay module is driven by a control circuit that supports the VM600Mk2 system's "Safetyline" functionality—a system-wide control signal. Upon the detection of a system fault, this control signal automatically drives all relays and analog outputs within the system to switch to a safe state, thereby ensuring a timely power shutdown in the event of a failure. The Standard version of the RLC16Mk2 can be configured for either Normally Energized (NE) or Normally De-energized (NDE) operation; the SIL version of the RLC16Mk2 supports only the Normally Energized (NE) mode. The relay module supports both latching and non-latching modes, with the specific mode configured and controlled by the associated MPC4Mk2 module. During normal operation, the relays default to the Normally Energized (NE) state—characterized by a closed circuit between the Common (COM) terminal and the Normally Open (NO) contact, and an open circuit between the COM terminal and the Normally Closed (NC) contact. When the relay module is individually activated/driven, or receives a system-wide safety loop control signal from the VM600Mk2 system, the relay switches to the Normally De-energized (NDE) state.
