Function & Application

The IS215VCMIH2C is the communication interface between the controller and the I/O boards, the communication interface with the system control network (called IONet), and also the VME bus master in the control and I/O racks, managing the IDs of all boards and their associated terminal boards in the rack. Its primary function is to handle communication between the control module (control rack) and the interface module (I/O rack). In the control module, the VCMI operates as an IONet master; in the interface module, it operates as an IONet slave. The VCMI establishes the network ID and displays the network ID, channel ID, and status on its front panel. At the physical layer, IONet communication uses 10Base2 Ethernet via thin RG-58 coaxial cable. The VCMI supports simultaneous operation of all three ports. The VCMI acts as the master frame counter for all nodes on the IONet. Operation frames are numbered sequentially, and all nodes on the IONet operate within the same frame, ensuring that selected data is correctly transmitted and processed.

There are two versions of the VCMI board: VCMIH1 and VCMIH2. The IS215VCMIH2C can be configured as a simplex system or a TMR redundancy system in the unit.

Three simplex system configurations using VCMI include local and remote I/O. Multiple I/O racks can be connected to the IONet, each with its own VCMI board. To improve data throughput for low-latency applications, the second IONet port on the VCMI can be used as a parallel IONet.
