The Tricnoex 3505E digital input module contains circuitry for three identical channels (A, B, and C). These channels reside on the same module but are completely isolated from each other and operate independently; a failure in one channel will not affect the others. Each channel of the 3505E output module contains an 8-bit microprocessor, called the I/O communication processor, responsible for communicating with the corresponding host processor. The three input channels asynchronously measure the input signal at each point on the input termination module, determine the corresponding state of the input signal, and place these values into input tables A, B, and C, respectively. Each input table is periodically queried via the I/O communication processor located on the corresponding host processor module via the I/O bus.
On the 3505E TMR digital input module, all critical signal paths employ 100% triple redundancy to ensure safety and maximum availability. Each channel independently conditions the signal and provides isolation between the field and Tricon. Like the 3503E input module, the 3505E TMR digital input module can also perform self-tests. However, compared to the 3503E input module, the threshold values for current and voltage when connected to the 3505E are lower, and the module's self-test is also performed within the lower threshold range.
