The 3503E TMR Digital Input (DI) module features three independent input channels, each processing all data input to the module independently. The microprocessor on each channel scans each input point, compiles the data, and transmits it to the main processor as needed. The input data is then voted on before being processed by the main processor to ensure maximum integrity. All critical signal paths are 100% triple-redundant for safety and maximum availability. Each channel independently adjusts the signal and provides optical isolation between the field and Tricon.
The 3503E TMR digital input module performs continuous and complete diagnostics on each channel. Any diagnostic failure on any channel activates the module fault indicator, which in turn activates the chassis alarm signal. The module fault indicator points to a channel fault, not a module fault. The module is guaranteed to operate normally in the presence of a single fault and can continue to operate normally even under certain types of multiple faults. The 3503E input module can perform a self-test to detect "stuck conduction" conditions where the circuit cannot determine whether a point has become open. The digital input modules support hot standby and require a separate external terminal panel (ETP) that connects to the Tricon backplane via a cable interface. Each module uses mechanical keying to prevent incorrect installation within the configured chassis.
Compared to the 3501E and 3501T output modules, the 3503E input module is more suitable for pressure transmitter signals (reactor pressure), temperature transmitter signals (reaction temperature), flow meter signals, and level transmitter signals (continuous level); the 3501E and 3501T input modules are suitable for: motor start/stop status feedback, valve open/close limit feedback, manual emergency stop buttons; fire alarm and gas detection alarm switches; and safety barrier gate switches. |
