Function & Details

The MMS 3120 dual-channel bearing vibration transmitter is part of the upgraded MMS 3000 transmitter system for monitoring and protecting various types of turbomachinery. Its highly flexible hardware options and numerous combinations allow for optimal adaptation to specific plant requirements. Using seismic absolute vibration sensors, it measures and monitors absolute bearing vibration economically.

 

The MMS 3120 dual-channel bearing vibration transmitter converts the vibration sensor signal into two independent signals proportional to the vibration velocity or amplitude (peak-to-peak), or to the maximum of these characteristic values. Integrated module and sensor monitoring functions detect malfunctions in the sensor and module electronics. In the event of a malfunction, the "OK" output changes state, and the 4-20 mA current output indicates 0 mA. Internal module monitoring functions continuously check the following:

  • The input signal is within a predetermined range
  • The cable between the transmitter and sensor is healthy (no short circuits/breaks)
  • The system voltage

Application

Ordering Information:

Applications for the transmitter include all types of turbomachinery, fans, compressors, gearboxes, pumps, and similar rotating machinery. Its bus functionality makes the MMS 3000 transmitter suitable for large systems with programmable logic controllers and host computers, such as power plants, refineries, and chemical plants, as well as smaller plants with fewer measuring points and decentralized data processing. The transmitter's input is compatible with all EPRO absolute bearing vibration sensors, such as the PR 9268/20, PR 9268/30, PR 9268/60, and PR 9268/70.

 

All necessary configuration is performed using the MMS 3910W configuration software, which is not included in the transmitter's scope of supply and must be ordered separately. The transmitter ships with a standard configuration suitable for most applications; any other configuration can be prepared at the factory upon request.
