Function & Application

The IS2020RKPSG3A VME rack power supply is mounted on the side of the VME control and interface module. It provides +5, +12, +15, and +28V DC power to the VME backplane and offers an optional 335V DC output for powering flame detectors connected to the TRPG. Two input voltage options are available: a 125V DC input powered by the Power Distribution Module (PDM) and a low-voltage version suitable for 24V DC operation. Different power supplies are used for independent control racks; the IS2020RKPSG3A power supply only powers the Mark VI controller, VDSK, and VCMI.

 

The IS2020RKPSG3A VME rack power supply is available in seven models. These models have different power input and output requirements.

Operation

The IS2020RKPSG3A VME rack power supply has only one user control button, a power switch, and three status LEDs. The power switch is used to control the power output voltage from the front panel and can be toggled for fault reset. Yellow, red, and green LEDs indicate the input power status, fault presence, and normal operation, respectively.

  • Power Switch: The front panel power switch is lockable and must be pulled out to switch positions. This switch is used for low-voltage control to enable or disable the output voltage. If the red LED is lit, indicating a fault, the power switch can be toggled to the off position and then back to the on position to clear the fault. The fault can only be cleared when the condition causing the fault no longer exists.
  • Yellow LED: When the power switch is off, the yellow LED indicates the input power status. If this LED is lit, it indicates that there is power at the power input connector. For newer designs, the yellow LED only lights up when the input voltage is higher than the input undervoltage fault threshold.
  • Red LED: This LED only lights up when there is input power, the power switch is on, and a fault is detected.
  • Green LED/Status Output: The green LED will light up when there is input power, the power switch is on, and no fault is detected. Newer designs also have a status output to simulate the status of this LED. The status output is a normally open (NO) solid-state relay contact that closes when the green LED illuminates.

Fault Conditions
Faults are categorized into three types: faults causing momentary output shutdown; faults requiring a reset operation to clear; and permanent faults requiring power supply replacement. Key conditions include:

Removal and Installation
The power supply is mounted on a metal bracket on the right side of the VME rack. DC input, 28V DC output, and 335V DC output interfaces are located at the bottom. The new design also adds a status connector at the bottom. The two connectors PSA and PSB at the top of the assembly connect to the wiring harness powering the VME rack. Five 28V DC power modules power one area of ​​the VME rack, labeled A, B, C, D, E, and F. The C output or PS28 at the bottom of the P28 power supply can be used to power external peripherals. Therefore, the jumper plug on the left side bracket of the rack must be moved from the "normal" position to the "isolation" position below.
