Function & Application
The IS200ESELH1A is an Exciter Selector board within the GE EX2100e excitation control system. Its primary function is to interface with the EMIO module, receiving six logic-level gate pulse signals from the EMIO module and distributing these pulse drive signals to the EGPA Exciter Gate Pulse Amplifier board. If the excitation system is configured with redundant control capabilities, two ESEL boards are required: one driven by M1 and the other by M2. The ESEL board currently designated as active—as selected by Controller C—is responsible for transmitting the necessary control signals to the EGPA board. Currently, three distinct models of ESEL boards are available to accommodate varying levels of redundancy requirements: the ESELH1 contains one bridge driver, the ESELH2 contains three bridge drivers, and the ESELH3 contains six bridge drivers. Customer Case and Testimonials The IS200ESELH1A is applicable to thermal power and gas turbine generator units, where it provides stable excitation control for steam turbine generators. In hydroelectric, wind power, and nuclear power generator units, the IS200ESELH1A is compatible with various excitation schemes—such as brushless excitation and DC rotary excitation—serving to ensure grid and voltage stability. Following an upgrade to its EX2100e system, the Taum Sauk Hydroelectric Power Station in the United States offered the following assessment of this board: "The IS200ESELH1A exhibits an extremely low failure rate. Since installing this module, its high reliability has resulted in a drastic reduction in unit downtime at our facility, thereby significantly boosting our power generation efficiency. Furthermore, the modular design of the ESEL greatly facilitates our routine maintenance and inspection procedures, eliminating a great deal of unnecessary hassle."
