The IS200EDEXG1B is a de-excitation module main control board, primarily utilized within the General Electric EX2100e excitation control system. During the generator shutdown process, the energy stored within the inductance of the generator's excitation winding must be dissipated; this function is executed by the IS200EDEXG1B de-excitation module in conjunction with an excitation discharge resistor.
Functions
Provides trigger signals for the de-excitation SCR (Silicon-Controlled Rectifier).
Detects and provides feedback regarding the conduction status.
Maintains a stable voltage to ensure continued normal operation of the equipment in the event of a power supply failure.

De-Excitation Process
As illustrated on the left, the de-excitation command is initiated by the EMIO board via the EXTB board. The EXTB board is responsible for controlling the main circuit breaker or contactor within the excitation loop. Upon receiving a de-excitation command—specifically when said breaker or contactor opens—its auxiliary contacts trigger the EDEX board to issue a directive. Consequently, the EXTB board opens the DC contactor (designated 41A/41B) or breaker and transmits the de-excitation signal, via the auxiliary contacts, to the SCR triggering circuit located on the EDEX board, thereby immediately initiating the de-excitation process. While the IS200EDEXG1B is typically under the control of the EXTB board, it retains the capability to independently initiate the de-excitation process in the event of a control system failure. For large-scale excitation systems, multiple de-excitation modules may be connected in parallel; in such configurations, one EDEX board must be designated as the Master control board, while the remaining boards are configured as Slave boards. Under this configuration, the trigger control signals sent to the Master board are forwarded to each of the Slave modules, thereby ensuring the simultaneous triggering and conduction of all modules.

FAQ
1. What is the function of IS200EDEXG1B?
—During the generator shutdown process, the IS200EDEXG1B assists in dissipating the energy stored in the generator's excitation winding inductance.
2. Can multiple IS200EDEXG1B modules be installed in a single cabinet??
—Certainly; multiple IS200EDEXG1B units can be configured in parallel—with one designated as the Master control board and the others configured as Slave boards—to achieve the simultaneous triggering and conduction of all modules.
3. What are the common faults of the IS200EDEXG1B?
—After years (exceeding 10 years) of operation, the unit and its modules may experience issues such as Hall sensor drift and SCR aging, leading to diminished triggering capability, conduction delays, or erroneous readings. Furthermore, prolonged operation of the module in extremely high-temperature environments may cause the capacitors on the circuit board to bulge. It is recommended to test the SCR conduction, calibrate the Hall sensors, and inspect the connectors for signs of oxidation every six months to one year.
Application Case: During the operation of a large-scale hydroelectric power plant, a fault in the external transmission lines resulted in a sudden load rejection. Due to the substantial inertia of the hydraulic turbine, the generator experienced a rapid rise in voltage, over-excitation of the excitation system, and an abnormal surge in the AVR output. If the excitation is not suppressed immediately, there is a high risk of asset damage and safety incidents. Upon detecting this anomaly, the IS200EDEXG1B module rapidly triggered the SCRs to initiate de-excitation; the excitation energy was quickly dissipated through the discharge circuit, thereby restoring the generator to a safe operating state.
Customer Comments: Following this incident—which was successfully averted thanks to the timely intervention—the end customer provided the following assessment: "The IS200EDEXG1B module features three critical functions: SCR conduction feedback, self-triggering upon overvoltage, and Hall-effect current detection. Even though parts of our generator's control system had failed at the time, the module executed the necessary protective action with exceptional performance. The IS200EDEXG1B module demonstrated an incredibly rapid response time, effectively saving both the generator rotor and the entire excitation cabinet, thereby safeguarding our highly valuable assets."
