The T8431 is a Trusted™ TMR 24V DC Analog Input Module, a member of the ICS Triplex Trusted™ family of I/O modules. The T8431 module can connect to 40 field input devices and acts as a current sink for all of them; all 40 input channels utilize a Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) architecture, significantly enhancing the fault tolerance of the input data.

Structure & Functions 

1. Field Termination Unit (FTU): An I/O module component used to connect all three Field Interface Units (FIUs) to a single field connector, facilitating coordination during module replacement procedures.
2. Field Interface Unit (FIU): Each T8431 module contains three FIUs, each comprising an Analog-to-Digital (A/D) converter used to process the 40 field input signals. The FIU receives isolated power from the Host Interface Unit (HIU) to energize its logic circuitry, and also provides additional power conditioning for the operating voltages required by its internal circuits.
3. Host Interface Unit (HIU): The HIU serves as the interface connecting the T8431 to the Inter-Module Bus (IMB); it also provides power distribution capabilities and local programmable processing functionality. The HIU is the only component within the I/O module that connects directly to the IMB backplane. 

4. Front Panel Unit (FPU): The Front Panel Unit (FPU) consists of a Front Panel Termination Unit (FPTU) and a Front Panel Display Unit (FPDU); it integrates the various connectors, switches, logic circuits, and LED indicators required for the front panel.
