Function & Application

EA402 913-402-000-013 is a Proximity Sensor in the TQ40X proximity measurement system. The TQ402/TQ412, EA402, and IQS900 form a proximity measurement system. This proximity measurement system enables non-contact measurement of the relative displacement of moving mechanical parts. It is particularly suitable for measuring the relative vibration and axial position of rotating machine shafts, such as those in steam turbines, gas turbines, and water turbines, as well as shafts in alternators, turbochargers, and pumps. The TQ402 or TQ412 non-contact sensor and IQS900 signal conditioner proximity measurement system are interchangeable. The system outputs a voltage or current proportional to the distance between the sensor tip and the target (e.g., a machine shaft). The sensor body is available with metric or imperial threads. The TQ412 version is suitable for reverse-mount applications. Both the TQ402 and TQ412 feature a built-in coaxial cable with a self-locking miniature coaxial connector at the end, configurable with various cable lengths (built-in and extension). The IQS900 signal conditioner features a high-frequency modulator/demodulator that provides a drive signal to the sensor. This signal generates the electromagnetic field required to measure the gap. The conditioner circuitry uses high-quality components and is housed in a painted aluminum housing. The TQ402 and TQ412 sensors can be used with a single EA402 extension cable for effective extension of the lead-in. Optional housings, junction boxes, and interconnect protectors are available for mechanical and environmental protection of the connection between the integrated cable and the extension cable. The proximity sensing system features the following characteristics:

  • A non-contact measurement system based on eddy current principles
  • Explosion-proof certified version, suitable for hazardous areas (potentially explosive atmospheres)
  • 5-meter and 10-meter systems
  • Temperature-compensated design
  • Voltage or current output with short-circuit protection
  • Frequency response: DC to 20 kHz (-3 dB)
  • Measuring range: 12 mm
  • Temperature range: -40 to +180 °C

Application:

  1. A chain for measuring relative vibration and clearance/position of shafts in mechanical equipment, used for equipment protection and/or condition monitoring.
  2. Works with VM600Mk2/VM600 and VibroSmart® machine monitoring systems, powered by the associated machine monitoring system when used together.
  3. Compliant with API 670 standards.
