Function & Details

The SDCC contains the main control circuitry and software for the driver or exciter. The SDCC consists of three 16-bit microprocessors and associated circuitry connected via dual-port RAM. Dual-port RAM [DPR] is a type of RAM configured as a memory array that can be accessed independently and simultaneously by two microprocessors. The three main microprocessors of the SDCC are:

  1. Drive Control Processor (DCP). The 80C186 microcontroller (U1) has numerous built-in peripheral functions and uses both digital and analog I/O. These functions include chip select address decoding, wait state generator, interrupt controller, timer/counter, and direct memory access (DMA) controller. The DCP software includes a user interface, external control loops (such as speed and position control), and system-level functions.
  2. Motor Control Processor (MCP). The 80C196 microcontroller (U21) features high-speed I/O, traditional digital I/O, analog I/O, timer/counter, and watchdog timer. The MCP software includes internal loops (such as current regulators) and motor/technology-specific functions (such as DC phase control, AC motion control, and AC general-purpose functions).
  3. The Co-Motor Processor (CMP) is used. The TMS320C25 digital signal processor (U35) performs mathematically intensive calculations for complex motor control algorithms that are too complex for the MCP. The SDCC uses this processor and its associated circuitry only when the driver requires additional processing power. The CMP connects only to its EPROM and the MCP/CMP dual-port RAM.

The SDCC contains interface circuitry that connects to other boards to form various types of AC and DC motor drivers. The interface circuitry controls and processes driver and motor signals, as well as user input/output modules. The SDCC connects to other boards on the controller and external signals via eight connectors (labeled PL). The connectors for other boards are as follows:

  • 1PL: Connector between the I/O power/interface board (DS200IMCP, DCI, SDCI, or DCFB) and the SDCC
  • 2PL: +5, 15, and 24 V DC input from the power/interface board to the SDCC
  • 3PL: SDCC output to the LAN communication card (DS215sLCC)
  • 6PL: Connector between the I/O driver terminal board (531X305NTB) or simple driver terminal board (DS200STBA) and the SDCC
  • 7PL: Connector between the I/O signal processor card (531X309SPC) or multi-bridge signal processing card (DS200SPCB) and the SDCC (this connector is not present on the SDCCG3s)
  • 8PL: Connector between the I/O driver terminal board (531X305NTB) or simple driver terminal board (DS200STBA) and the SDCC Connectors between:
  • 9PL: Unused (This connector is not present on SDCCG3s)
  • 11PL: SDCC output to instrumentation (This output is not present on SDCCG3s)

Application

The DS215SDCC card contains onboard software stored in five memory chips: four EPROMs (U11, U12, U22, and U23) containing factory-programmed configuration data; and one EEPROM (U9) containing field-adjustable parameters. These memory chips are located in the SDCC slot. When replacing the DCC, specify the DS215SDCC card as the replacement to ensure that these five memory chips are included. The DS200SDCC card does not include the above five memory chips (slot is empty).

Three SDCC card group numbers are currently available (the G2 version was never produced). The differences between the groups are as follows:

  • DS200SDCCG1A: For AC2000, DC2000, and EX2000 drive applications
  • DS200SDCCG3A: For DC1000 drives, a variant of the SDCC with reduced functionality
  • DS200SDCCG4A: For TC2000 rack applications, similar to G1A, but with a larger EE parameter storage area and different firmware.
