Function & Application
The ABE040 and ABE042 system racks are designed to house the hardware components of the VM600Mk2/VM600 series mechanical protection and/or condition monitoring systems. The ABE040 and ABE042 racks are very similar; the only difference lies in the positioning of the mounting brackets. Both racks can accommodate up to 15 single-width VM600Mk2/VM600 modules (card pairs), or a mixed configuration consisting of both single-width and multi-width modules. The ABE042 system rack features an integrated VME backplane responsible for establishing electrical interconnections between the installed VM600Mk2/VM600 modules, covering functions such as power distribution, signal processing, I/O, relay control, and CPUx rack control. Additionally, a power status detection relay is located on the rear of the rack to indicate whether the installed RPS6U rack power supply is operating normally. Typically, the corresponding I/O modules are mandatory components, while the relay modules are optional. The ABE042 system rack can accommodate one or two VM600Mk2/VM600 RPS6U rack power supplies. In applications with ambient operating temperatures up to 50 °C (122 °F), a single installed RPS6U power supply is sufficient to meet the total power requirements of a fully populated rack. Installing two RPS6U power supplies enables rack power redundancy. For accelerometer and proximity probe systems installed in hazardous (explosive) environments, optional Electrical Isolation Units (GSIxxx) are available. These units cannot be powered directly by the rack; therefore, they require an external power source and must be installed in a remote enclosure or cabinet located outside the rack. Rack Module Installation Locations 1. Front of the Rack (15 Slots): 12 × Slots 03 through 14 — Used for installing processor modules such as the MPC4Mk2, XMx16, MPC4, and/or AMC8. 2 × Slots 00 to 01 — For installing rack controllers (such as CPUMMk2, CPUM, CPUR, CPUR2) and communication interface modules. 1 × Slot 02 — Reserved for installing specific application modules. 2. Rear of the Rack Up to 19 × Slots: Positions 00 to 18 — For installing compatible Input/Output modules (cards), such as IOC4Mk2, XIO16T, IOC4T and/or IOC8T, IOCNMk2, or IOCx; as well as relay modules (cards), such as RLC16Mk2, RLC16, and IRC4. Up to 4 Slots: Positions 17 to 20 — For installing corresponding backplanes to provide input connections for the VM600Mk2/VM600 RPS6U rack-mounted power supply (or multiple power supplies).
