The 4351B is a Tricon communication module from Triconex. This TCM is only compatible with Tricon v10.0 and later versions. The module allows Tricon to communicate with TriStation, other Tricon or Trident controllers, Modbus masters and slaves, and external hosts via Ethernet. The 4351B tricon communication module includes four serial ports, two network ports, and one debug port (for Triconex). Each serial port has a unique address and can be configured as a Modbus master or slave. Serial port 1 supports Modbus or Trimble GPS interfaces. Serial port 4 supports Modbus or TriStation interfaces. The total data rate of all four serial ports on the 4351B communication module is 460.8 kbps.
In most process control applications, there are typically two systems to monitor and manage the process: a distributed control system (DCS) and a safety system, such as a Tricon controller. These two systems are usually isolated from each other but share a common operating interface. The Tricon controller employs a state-of-the-art microprocessor-based architecture, supporting multiple communication modes. Depending on the control program requirements, the 4351B communication module can connect to the following devices:

Tricon programs use variable names as identifiers, while Modbus devices use numeric addresses called aliases. Therefore, an alias must be assigned to each Tricon variable name that will be read or written by a Modbus device. An alias is a five-digit number representing the Modbus message type and the variable's address in Tricon. Alias numbers are assigned in TriStation. Any standard Modbus device can communicate with Tricon via a TCM, provided that an alias is assigned to the Tricon variable. An alias must also be used when the host accesses Tricon through other communication modules. A single Tricon system supports a maximum of four TCMs, which must reside in two logical slots. Different TCM models cannot be mixed in the same logical slot. Each Tricon system supports a total of 32 Modbus masters or slaves—this total includes network ports and serial ports. Hot standby is not supported for TCMs, but you can replace a faulty TCM while the controller is online.
Specifications Serial ports:4, RS-232/RS-485 ports, DB-9 connectors
