Function & Application

The 216DB61 is a REG216 Binary Input and Tripping Unit. The unit contains 16 input channels and 8 output channels. Output channels transmit trip commands for activated protection functions to the 216GA62 trip relay module. Input channels receive external signals from the 216GE61 input/output relay module, which transmits these signals via bus to the 216VC62a processing unit. This unit is a plug-in unit with a width of one standard increment (1T). The internal auxiliary power supply voltage is 5V, provided by the device's internal 24V auxiliary DC power supply. The main components of the device include the bus interface, input registers, output registers and output monitor, output driver stage, and fault detector. The location of jumper BR1 on the 216DB61 PCB determines whether the "ENABLE" and "BLOCK CH OUT" functions are active, i.e., whether trigger channels CHO01...CHO08 are enabled or disabled. Enabling and disabling functions are only applicable to the 216DB61 unit.

 

Front Panel Signals and Controls

  • LED "AL" (Red): Alarm. Illuminates when an internal fault occurs in the device.
  • LED "CH IN" (Yellow): Input channels 01...12. Indicates which input channels CHI01...CHI12 are powered on.
  • LED "ENABLE" (Yellow): BR1 in X4 position: (B/E inactive). Illuminates when input channels CHI13...CHI14 are powered on. BR1 in X3 position: (B/E active). LEDs 1 and 2 must remain illuminated during normal operation. (Channel output enabled).
  • LED "BLOCK" (Yellow): BR1 in X4 position: (B/E inactive). Illuminates when input channels CHI15...CHI16 are powered on. BR1 in X3 position: (B/E active). LEDs 1 and 2 must not illuminate during normal operation. (Channel output is enabled) LED "CH OUT" (yellow): 01...08 jumper signal. Lights up according to the power status of channels CHO01...CHO08.

In the event of a failure in a single protection device, there is no need for preventative shutdown of critical generators. The REG 216 generator protection system can be customised to meet all specific needs by selecting appropriate software and hardware modules. A comprehensive software library includes protection, measurement, and monitoring functions.

  • Protection Functions: Overcurrent (reverse and delayed); thermal overload; overvoltage; undervoltage; generator differential protection; transformer differential protection; frequency protection; df/dt; reverse power protection; limiting ground fault protection; stator ground fault protection (95%); stator ground fault protection (100%); rotor ground fault protection; voltage-controlled overcurrent protection; stator overload protection; rotor overload protection; negative sequence current protection (reverse and delayed); overexcitation protection; minimum impedance; loss of excitation; pole slip; system crash; voltage balance; inter-turn fault, etc.
  • Monitoring Functions: Event logging; disturbance logging; measurement functions; voltage and current; active and reactive power; frequency; automation functions; synchronisation checks; logic circuits; AND gates, OR gates, counters; triggers, timers, integrators; FUPLA; function programming languages ​​for complex logic, etc.

 

REG 216/REG 216C Features include: modular configuration; selectable protection functions from a library; redundant design; wide application range; PC-aided setup menu; full numerical signal processing; continuous hardware self-monitoring; cyclically executed test programs, primarily run by software; remote diagnostic function requests; online display of measured values; event display and printouts; disturbance logging (optional); self-documentation recording of complete configuration; and communication and coordination with station control.
