The AC 800M controller series, with its modular design and integrated engineering tools, helps reduce costs, improve engineering quality, and enhance operational efficiency. The AC 800M is a rail-mounted module series consisting of CPUs, communication modules, power supply modules, and various accessories. A variety of CPU modules are available, differing in processing power, memory size, SIL rating, and redundancy support. Scalable and flexible, it is suitable for all environments. The modular design of the AC 800M subsystem makes it suitable for both small hybrid systems and large, highly available integrated automation applications, improving return on assets by providing the flexibility to select specific functions to meet actual needs. Using the same basic hardware, a variety of central processing units (CPUs), I/O, communication modules, and power supply options are available to provide flexibility in functionality, performance, and size. For example, a basic controller might consist of a power supply module, a controller, and local I/O modules. Larger systems can consist of multiple AC800M controllers communicating over an Ethernet-based control network. These systems can utilize sub-cluster I/O components connected to their host controllers via cable, fiber optic, or wireless industrial standard fieldbuses. For harsh environments, all modules meet the G3 severity level of the ISA-S71.04 standard, which specifies environmental conditions for process measurement and control systems.

The AC 800M controller subsystem features redundant design at all levels (CPU, I/O, power supply, internal bus, fieldbus, and control network) for maximum flexibility and availability. Redundancy at the I/O, controller, and communication levels is available as an optional feature. For CPU redundancy, bumpless transfer to the backup circuit in case of primary circuit failure ensures uninterrupted operation. Implementing all redundancy options eliminates single points of failure, thus helping to ensure the highest availability. Network redundancy is based on ABB RNRP (Redundant Network Routing Protocol), designed to quickly detect network failures and immediately switch to the backup path. Compliance with international standards ensures the highest level of reliability and quality, meeting the most stringent global specifications and requirements. Together, these features provide users with fast, accurate, and uninterrupted process control. The AC800M's applications and data can be stored on removable flash memory to ensure the security of its contents, for example, after a power outage or during replacement or transportation. The main controller module of the AC 800M series controllers has multiple built-in communication interfaces. These interfaces include four RS-232C ports, a communication expansion bus connector for the CEX-Bus, and an electrical module bus for connecting to the local I/O communication bus. AC 800M controllers (except PM891) come standard with a built-in lithium battery for memory and real-time clock backup. In addition, standard and rechargeable external lithium batteries are available to extend battery life. System status monitoring functions monitor battery status to ensure correct maintenance and replacement timing. The AC800M has a built-in flash memory card, and applications and data can be stored on removable flash memory to ensure the security of the contents after a power outage or during replacement or transportation.
The AC 800M HI controllers PM857, PM863, and PM867 provide a TÜV-certified control environment for process safety applications in integrated and standalone environments. The AC 800M HI controllers, in conjunction with different coprocessors such as the SM812, perform diagnostics and monitoring of application execution and I/O scanning. HI controllers offer flexible network design as they can be used for integrated but independent safety operations, or for fully integrated applications where safety and business-critical process control are combined in one controller without compromising safety integrity.
