GE Digital Energy STS Switchboard Selection and Operation Procedures
Time:Oct 28,2025
This device is available with an optional switchboard. The switchboard consists of integrated switches (K1, K2, K3, K4, and K5) and serves as a manual bypass, allowing uninterrupted switching of the STS. The mechanical arrangement of the integrated switches ensures a "break-before-make" switching method and the correct switching sequence. Both the primary and secondary power sources are connected to the STS via three-wire cables (one phase, one neutral, and one protective earth). The electrical parameters of the input power (primary and secondary) and the output external circuit (STS output) must meet STS specifications. Three cables enter the STS: two from the power source and one from the load, forming three outgoing lines. The lines from the power source are called input lines, while the lines to the load are called output lines. The input line voltage and output line current values must not exceed acceptable ranges.

If the STS is equipped with the optional switchboard, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the power to both external power supply lines of the STS-230-XX. The switches for both power supplies can be located at a distance from the STS, depending on the topology of the rest of the power system.
2. Use a suitable voltmeter to check that both input lines are voltage-free.
3. Remove the four screws from the switchboard and remove the front cover.
4. Remove the four screws from the STS board, disconnect the control panel (the ribbon cable is inside the STS board), and remove the front cover.
5. Connect the wires leading from the top of the lower board to the corresponding terminals on the upper board.
6. Turn the integrated switch on the switchboard to the "0 NORMAL" position.
7. Securely connect the three wires from the first power supply (primary power supply) to the X01 primary power terminal and one of the PE terminals on the switchboard.
8. Securely connect the three wires from the second power supply (secondary power supply) to the X02 secondary power terminal and one of the PE terminals on the distribution board.
9. Securely connect the wires connected to the load (output) to the X03 output terminal and one of the PE terminals on the distribution board. 10. Check the connections of the three external lines. In particular, the output lines connected to the load should be connected to the correct terminals in the STS.
11. Reinstall the covers of both distribution boards and secure them with screws. Remember that the ribbon cable should be connected inside the STS distribution board.
If the STS is not equipped with the optional distribution board, proceed as follows:
1. Disconnect the power to the two power supply lines outside the STS. The switches for both power supplies can be located some distance from the STS, depending on the topology of the rest of the power system.
2. Use a suitable voltmeter to check that both input lines are voltage-free.
3. Remove the four screws from the STS board, disconnect the control panel (the ribbon cable is located inside the STS board), and remove the front cover of the STS board.
4. Securely connect the three wires from the first powered device (the mains power source) to the mains terminals and one of the PE terminals on the STS board. 5. Securely connect the three wires from the second power supply (secondary power source) to the secondary power source terminals and one of the PE terminals on the STS board.
6. Securely connect the wires connected to the load (output) to the STS output terminals and one of the PE terminals on the STS board.
7. Check the connections of the three external wires. In particular, the output wires connected to the load should be connected to the correct terminals in the STS.
8. Reinstall the STS board cover and secure it with the screws. Remember to connect the ribbon cable inside the STS board.
