A quick note on the 128229-01 prox/seismic card

The 128229-01 is a I/O module for Bently Nevada’s 3500/42M monitor. It takes two types of sensors: proximity probes and seismic transducers. That means one card handles shaft vibration and casing vibration together.

No internal termination on this one. You need external termination blocks for the proximity probes. That is different from the 128240-01, which has terminations built in. The 128229-01 uses the older method. If you are replacing a card in an existing rack, that might actually be what you want. Keeps the wiring the same.

Physically, it fits any 3500 rack slot. Dimensions are 24.2 x 10 x 2.5 cm. The card alone weighs 0.45 kg. Shipping weight is about 2 kg — box and padding add most of that.

Lead time is 5 to 7 working days. Stock available.

The 42M monitor’s job is to compare vibration readings against set thresholds. Exceed a threshold, get an alarm. That is the whole point of near-field earthquake monitoring. It is not about seismic events from the ground. It is about vibration events inside the machine that cross a line.

From a wiring perspective, external termination means you land the probe leads on a separate block somewhere in the cabinet. That block holds the end-of-line resistor. It works, but it adds a few extra connections. Some maintenance teams prefer internal termination because there are fewer places to check. Others stick with external because they already have the blocks installed and do not want to redo the cabinet.

The front panel has standard status LEDs. Channel health, OK, bypass. Nothing fancy. If you have seen any other 3500 I/O card, this one looks the same.

For turbines, compressors, or large pumps, this module does the job. It is not new. It is not flashy. But it is known and it works. When a channel dies during an outage, people ask for this part number because they know it will swap in without surprises.

One thing to watch: if you are ordering this for a new rack, decide upfront whether you want external or internal termination. The 128229-01 is external. The 128240-01 is internal. They are not interchangeable without changing the field wiring. Pick the one that matches your termination blocks.

That is about it. No magic. Just a solid I/O card for prox and seismic inputs.
