The CI840A is a communication interface module in ABB's S800 I/O series, enabling communication with upstream controllers and PLCs via industry-standard fieldbus. The CI840 Fieldbus Communication Interface (FCI) module is a configurable communication interface capable of signal processing, various monitoring information acquisition, over-source protection (OSP) handling, in-run hot configuration, HART pass-through, and I/O module configuration. The CI840 is designed for redundant applications. The FCI connects to the controller via the PROFIBUS-DPV1 fieldbus. Available module terminal units are: TU846 (for redundant I/O) and TU847 (for non-redundant I/O). The advantages are as follows.
