1. ACS 1000 Industrial Drives
The ACS 1000 industrial drive series features a broad power range—spanning from 315 kW to 5000 kW—making it suitable for a wide variety of applications. These drives serve industries such as mining, cement, power generation, chemicals, oil and gas, water and wastewater treatment, marine, and food and beverage. They provide reliable motor control capabilities for equipment ranging from pumps, fans, compressors, and conveyors to rolling mills, grinding mills, marine propulsion systems, and grid simulators—as well as other non-rotating equipment and high-power applications.
The ACS 1000 offers two cooling options: air-cooled and water-cooled. The air-cooled drive models can be optionally equipped with either an external or an integrated input transformer, thereby eliminating the need for costly harmonic analyses or the installation of grid filters. Thanks to a built-in output sine-wave filter, the drives can—in field applications—drive standard induction motors, facilitate the retrofitting of older motors, and accommodate long motor cable runs. The ACS 1000 medium-voltage drives feature an arc-resistant design, ensuring that both personnel and equipment assets are protected from the hazards of electrical arcing. Furthermore, the drives can connect directly to the ABB Ability™ Remote Condition Monitoring (RCM) system, providing precise, real-time information regarding the drive's operational status to facilitate timely maintenance and servicing.

2. ACS 6000 Industrial Drives
The ACS 6000 industrial drive series consists of medium-voltage drives designed for use in both single-motor and multi-motor applications, with power ratings ranging from 3 kW to 27 MW. These drives are widely deployed across various sectors to control induction motors, synchronous motors, and permanent magnet motors. Utilizing the DTC control platform, the ACS 6000 drives deliver exceptional torque and speed control performance; they feature a common DC bus architecture that supports both single-motor and multi-motor operation, and they are equipped with energy regeneration capabilities. The ACS 6000 features a fuse-less design utilizing IGCT devices, which provide rapid and reliable protection for power components, thereby eliminating the need for—and replacing—less reliable medium-voltage power fuses across multiple motors. The drive modules can be connected to a common DC bus, enabling energy transfer to other inverters via this shared bus without the need to draw power directly from the utility grid.

Employing a modular design and IGCT semiconductor devices, the ACS 6000 drive features a reduced component count, delivering high efficiency and exceptional reliability to facilitate optimal system configurations. The system comprises a Line Supply Unit (LSU), an Active Rectifier Unit (ARU), and an Inverter Unit (INU). The LSU supports two-quadrant operation and maintains a constant power factor of 0.96 across the entire speed control range. The ARU rectifies the AC grid voltage and charges the DC bus capacitors; it supports four-quadrant operation, effectively mitigates harmonics, and offers an adjustable power factor. The INU is a 6-pulse, three-level voltage source inverter that converts the DC voltage into the AC voltage required by the motor. Both the ARU and INU share an identical layout and component configuration; by combining these units according to the required output power, motor configuration, and process demands, an optimal system setup can be achieved.
